Repair Damaged Stairs

SEVERE DAMAGE TO STAIRS AT SHOPPING MALL

This exterior staircase at a premier Denver area shopping mall was in terrible condition when Fusion-Crete U.S. approached the management company in 2010 seeking a project as a showpiece in the Denver area.

There were four failed concrete repair products to remove. All 500 linear feet of nosing failed during hammer prep. Over 80 linear feet of traction strip cast into the treads completely detached during prep.

There were areas on two of the landings that held water which froze in winter posing slip and fall hazards.

Virtually no part of the staircase was free of some kind of damage: divots, rot, spalling, and just plain ugly concrete. Fusion-Crete copolymer modified concrete mortar resolved all the issues.

To secure the project Fusion-Crete U.S. provided a five year warranty on the restoration. The staircase remains in excellent condition with four years of the warranty period complete in June 2014.

SEVERE DAMAGE TO RESIDENTIAL STAIRS WITH FLUID BASED HEAT SYSTEM

The front entrance steps at this luxury resort home suffered extensive damage due to water intrusion under a failed non-slip urethane coating. There is a fluid based snow and ice melt system cast into the stairs (see exposed tubing in before photo).

Access to the stairs is over a lawn with an irrigation system on a steep grade. The stairs are surrounded by flower beds, shrubbery, and stone masonry. The cost for removal and replacement of the damaged section of stairs would be astronomical with damage to peripheral items likely.

Total restoration of the stairs with Fusion-Crete was completed in July 2010 at a cost of $3500.00.

The stairs remain in excellent condition March 2014.
